Auli – The Paradise of ski lovers..!!

Auli situated at an altitude of 1917 – 3049m is nirvana for Skiing enthusiasts. With snow covered slopes and meadows Auli is in Chamoli District of Uttarakhand, India a part of Garhwal Himalayan mountain range. Auli has also hosted the First South Asian Winter Games in January’2011. In fact, some French and Australian experts consider Auli to be one of the best ski resorts in the whole world.

Temperature:

(November to February) are chilly days with average minimum touching near 4°C. Minimum can touch sub zero levels (-8°C). Snow falling seen very often during winters.

Lord Badrinath’s temple is located between Nar-Narayan Mountains. God appeared here in the Dwapar era. It is said that at the end of Kaliyuga, the path of Badrinath Dham will be blocked due to Nar-Narayan Mountains interlock and people will not be able to reach the Badrinath Dham. There is a belief associated with the temple of Lord Narasimha in Joshimath. This secret related to the Narasimha Temple is described in Kedarkhand of Skanda Purana. According to this, the wrist of the Shaligram of Narasimha is becoming thin every day. When it falls apart from the body, all the paths of Badrinath will be closed forever by the collapse of the Nar and Narayana mountains. Then devotees will come to Bhavishya Badri or Future Badri to worship the Lord Badrinath.

Day 01: Arrival at “Yoga Capital of the World” Rishikesh

  • Arrival at Rishikesh by train or flight, meet & transportation to hotel. Upon arrival at hotel completion of formalities will take place. 
  • Set in the foothills of the Himalayas, Rishikesh is a beautiful city that remains thronged with devotees and adventure enthusiasts all through the year. The city features a unique charm and scenic beauty which adds to the visit of every traveller. The place holds immense religious importance as it is the starting point of sacred pilgrimage tours of Hindus- the Char Dham Yatra (comprising Gangotri, Badrinath, Yamunotri and Kedarnath).The place features a serene and pleasant ambiance which is perfect for those who wish for some privacy and peace, away from the daily hustle and bustle of the overcrowded cities.
  • Getting power nap to get over Jet Lag, it’s great to experience “the Divine Triveni Ghat Aarti”Triveni Ghat is the place of confluence of the three holy rivers- the Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati. Nearby is Bharat Mandir, which was built back during the 9th century by philosopher Adi Shankaracharya. This Aarti is a lifetime experience, watching people dancing and singing bhajan and kirtans.
  • Back to hotel after tons of memories and pictures.

Day 02: Rishikesh / Auli

  • On the second day of the trip, you will be traveling from Rishikesh to Auli. On your way, you would come across Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Nandprayag, and Joshimath who have special importance among the Panch Prayags. On your journey, you can enjoy these spiritual and religious places with your children- educating themselves about the mythological folk tales and importance of these places. Joshimath- also known as Jyotirmath is one the holiest gateway to the rarest pilgrimage sites- Badrinath.
  • After reaching Auli you can check -into the hotel for the night stay.
  • Lunch en-route at restaurant enjoying local & fresh cuisines. 
  • Upon arrival, check-in at hotel and conducting formalities. 
  • Introduction with Instructor & Skiing Team briefing about the program.
  • Dinner and overnight stay at hotel/guest house.

Day 03: Auli (Beginning of skiing day)

  • Get ready to experience slopes and meadows of Auli with rise & fall in snow covered hills. Take basic lesson and you will your lovely Skies at White Powder Ski Training At Auli Slopes. 
  • On this day, you slide, slip, fall, bump into trees but end up having a lot of fun. The slopes are warmed by excited cries and laughter of entrants. 
  • Post your session, have a sumptuous meal at the Guest house followed by some rest and a short session to stand, apply brakes & balancing on the skis. 
  • Evenings are free to build your snow mans & have snow-ball fights.
  • Dinner & Overnight stay at hotel / guest house.

Day 04: Auli (Skiing Improvement day session)

  • Day to give more focus on body part stable position, some short technical how to make parallel turn beside this snow plow. Moving from gentle slope to Course II level. Make Perfect lesson to comfort slide with your parallel turns and snow plough turns.
  • Dinner & Overnight stay at hotel / guest house.

Day 05: Auli

  • Safety technical, first aid lesson and finally one touch one move scroll technical based on strange part of ski course.
  • Dinner & Overnight stay at hotel / guest house.

Day 06: Auli - Free Hand Skiing with Sightseeing in and around Joshimath

  • As the day 6 in the Auli- you can spend your day doing freehand skiing with safety and secure run and admiring the beauty of the snow-covered Himalayas which you will miss after returning home. After lunch, the rest of the day can be spent with local sight-seeing and shopping in and around the Joshimath. You can visit Vishnuprayag and other places nearby the Joshimath. In the evening, you will come back to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 07: Visit to Bhavishya Badri via Subhain Village to return Auli

    • Day 7th after waking up with the fresh gush of snowy wind and heart-melting breakfast, you would leave for the Bhavishya Badri. 2744 meters above sea level, Bhavishya Badri is one of the tallest attractions of Auli. On your journey to Bhavishya Badri via Saldhar (23 km Drive), you can enjoy 5 km trek in Subhain Village to add another experience on your adventure list with local mythological tales and a beautiful view of bugyals. We will make our way back for Dinner to Auli.

Day 8: . Auli to Rishikesh (Cable car ride followed by journey back home)

  • On the final day of the trip with breakfast, you will make your way back journey from Auli to Rishikesh - admiring all the beautiful memories you have created with your little one on this trip. Auli also boasts of Asia's longest - 4 km - cable car (Gondola). It also has a Chair Lift and a Ski-Lift. Take your ride in the cable car to have an experience of a lifetime. Views of high Himalayan peaks like Mana, Kamet and tallest of all Nanda Devi.
  • You will have lunch en-route at a local restaurant. It will take around 8 hours to reach the Rishikesh- the birthplace of ancient yoga and Ayurveda. Once reached, you can take your belongings and leave for your journey back home.

Here are some of the inclusion or exclusion skiers need to consider during the entire trips: –

  • 07 nights accommodation based on full board, starting from Dinner on day 01 till Lunch on day 08.
  • Services of Tempo traveller (Non AC in mountain) for pick up from Dehradun airport / Haridwar Railway station and next day drop at Auli & Vice versa.
  • Bottle of Indian mineral water (300 ml) per day per person.
  • Inclusive of Skiing equipment ( shoes and skiing poles, jackets, trousers, and ski boots).
  • Skiing Instructor during skiing session.
  • Present applicable taxes.
  • Meal- separate veg and non-veg meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) will be provided
  • Accommodation – Hotel/resort stays on a single or sharing basis
  • Training- Basic training and instructions will be provided to use during the ski
  • Bonfire (once)
  • Equipment- Skiing equipment and gears will be provided to each skier
  • First Aid kit with Oxygen cylinder containing adequate stock of the most frequently – needed medicine (if you have any medicine suggested by your physician then please carry at your end)

  • Our cost is based on present applicable taxes in case there is any hike in taxes we shall be liable to apply the same on you and advise you the revised cost based on revised taxes.

Advisory:
  • Under the supervision of the trek instructors, participants must try following a certain schedule during the course of the Auli skiing tour
  • Minimum age of the participant is 13 year old
  • Student under the age of 18 years are required to submit a birth certificate and a bonafide student certificate from school/college along with the application form failing with he/she may be charged full fee.
  • Participants must be physically fit for the Snow Skiing Course.
  • For proper blood circulation, avoid wearing thick socks or cotton socks.
  • Make sure to pack proper skiing pants instead of denim jeans or track/sweat pants.
  • Wear waterproof jackets and gloves.
  • Do not use disposable plastic water bottles, plastic-wrapped items.
  • It is mandatory to carry your identification proof for the ski lift and car chair rides.

What do I need to pack?

Whether you are beginners or a professional, you need to carry the following essentials while joining this skiing trip at Auli with your children: –

  • Wardrobe essentials like ski trousers/pants, heavy woollen and fleece clothes, rain-proof jackets, sunglasses, socks, wind-proof jackets, thermal inner wear
  • A sturdy backpack with a plastic or water-proof lining
  • Moisturisers, chapsticks
  • Torch, water bottle, extra polythene bags for wet clothes and a whistle.
  • Heavy woollen clothes to prevent cold

January and February is the best time since Auli receives snowfall during these two months. The thick layer of snow on the slopes is perfect for skiing. Although Auli is open from November-end to March-end for skiing.

There is no direct Bus/Train/Air services for Auli from New Delhi.

One has to reach first either Haridwar, Rishikesh or Dehardun and then reach to Joshimath which is the nearest bus/taxi stand for Auli. Auli is 16 km away from Joshimath and can be reached by a private or sharing cab or a bus. One can also avail of the cable car which runs between Auli and Joshimath.

By Road: Distance between Auli to Delhi is 380 km. There is no direct reliable bus service direct for Auli from New Delhi. One can take a bus from New Delhi ISBT(Inter State Bus Terminal) to Rishikesh. From Rishikesh (ISBT terminal) there is frequent bus service for Joshimath.

By Train: Take a train from New Delhi or Old Delhi for the Haridwar railway station. Private taxi/ Bus services can be avail to Joshimath.

By Air: Jolly Grant Airport (DED) in Dehradun is the nearest domestic airport to Auli. One can hire Private taxi Dehradun to board Joshimath.

Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun (DED) is 180 KM from Auli and is the nearest domestic airport.
Rishikesh/ Haridwar/ Dehardun is the nearest railway station to Auli. The distance is between 190 to 200 KM tentatively from all three railway stations.
Indira Gandhi International Airport New Delhi (IGI) is the nearest International airport.

Yes, there are local car rental services in Auli. One can hire for local sightseeing as well as for Intercity and long-distance.

Mountains are unpredictable in terms of climate and monsoon, hence sometimes the condition of the road deteriorates due to monsoon, otherwise, the road conditions are smooth and very nice. It is advisable to check the climate before you pack your bag, or consult Trek N Tales representative.

Auli is surrounded by scenic mountain beauty and few prominent Hindu religious places.
Some significant and must-visit places at Auli: Joshimath, Chattrakund Lake, Kwani Bugyal, Gurso Bugyal, Saildhar Tapovan, Chenab Lake.

Unlike Auli, the nearest city Joshimath at a distance of 16 Km from Auli have a better option of nice restaurants and hotels. Auli has limited hotels and resorts in and that too, one has to depend upon in-house restaurants at hotels or local Dhaba/snacks joints.

Summers: Summers are pleasant with a temperature between 7 degrees to 20-degree celsius.

Winters: Winters are chilling; temperature ranges between -2 degree and 10-degree celsius.

Monsoons: Monsoons are moderate with rainfalls. It is recommended to avoid traveling to Auli during monsoon due to unpredictable weather conditions, and rainfalls affecting the road conditions.

Snowfall: Snowfall in Auli can be experienced between December and February, favorable for skiing in Auli.

Auli is a safe tourist destination. Due to its surroundings, landscape and Snowfall, the place is a popular tourist destination. The local people are tourist-friendly, cooperative and helping.

Ski trousers, wind-proof jacket, sunglasses, rain-proof jacket, rainproof cover for your carry bag, heavy woolen and fleece clothes, thermal innerwear, socks, etc. You should also carry a trekking pole.

Trekking shoes, snow boots, although snow boots can be rented at Auli if you want to avoid extra baggage.

It’s safe for kids. Make sure to keep sufficient warm and covered clothes and shoes.

Yes, you need to take ski lessons/workshops from Trek N Tales coordinating team. Skiing needs a certain level of risk hence few skills are required before you perform. Trek N Tales team skiing expert will conduct ski lessons before you are ready to hit the ice floor. Later you will be under the guideline and supervision of an instructor while performance.

This will full day activities of Skiing. The schedule also includes the basic training by an instructor in the first half and after lunch, you can resume your Auli skiing session.

Skiing is a safe sport. In case of any fall the soft snow act as preventive. If you know the basics and a few skills which you have trained during the workshop before your session, then it becomes easy. The control of speed plays an important role during this sport. If you are beginner level then moderate and basics slops are good for fun.

Are group size is customized and can the general group size is between 15-20 people. If the group size in a minimum of 08 people then it needs prior confirmation from our team, and customization can be done.

The complete sets of ski gear: skis, boots, and poles will be included in the part of packages. You don’t need to hire it. Apart from inclusions, all personal items/clothing should be an individual responsibility.

Our team will first rescue, and upon first aid, you will be taken to the nearest Joshimath hospital. Depending on the condition of your injuries, our team will decide if you need to travel to the nearest multispecialty hospital at Deharadun.
