Chandrashila is one kilometer away from Tungnath temple, but the climb is very tough. Many times people return only from Tungnath temple. Due to snowfall, the path becomes even more slippery. There is a temple of Ma Gange on Chandrashila, and from here the snow-covered Himalayan peaks are visible. Nanda Devi peak can be clearly seen from here. There is a small place in Uttarakhand, Chopta, from where the famous Chandrishila trek starts. Starting from Chopta located at 2680 meters high, this track has a beautiful pine forest. Chopta is completely covered with snow in the winters. Arriving at the top of Chandrashila, there is a beautiful view of Nanda Devi, Trishul and Kedar Dham and other high peaks of Himalayas. There is a short trek for Tungnath from Chopta. Tungnath is the Shiva temple built on the highest altitude (3600 meters) in the world. This is one of the panch Kedar which is built on Chandrila peak. It is said that this temple is 1000 years old and some of the Mahabharata related things are also mentioned. Chandrashila Peak (4130 meters) is situated at a distance of 1 hour from Tungnath. In Trek from Chopta, you will see more than 76 different Species of Birds in dense forests. You can also see the Golden Breasted Eagle on Trek which is found only in the Himalayas. From Chopta to Tungnath on one side is a 1 to 1.30-hour trek.
