Overview

In the summer season, the minds of people living in plains run away towards the mountains. From hot to cold, coming from the shore to solitude looks very spectacular and lovely. The people of Delhi and parts of India are very tempted by the mountain anyway. One such place is Chopta, which is called India’s Mini Switzerland because of its natural beauty. People come here to spend a few moments in solitude as well as being rude to nature. Tungnath is a very famous temple. Tungnath, Panch Kedar (Kedarnath, Madmeshwar, Tungnath, Rudranath, and Kalpeshwar) is one of the three and it comes in third place. Most people know only about Kedarnath but these five Kedars are equally important, as much as Kedarnath.

According to the legends, the gods used to take bath in this Deoriatal (lake), so in the Puranas, it has been mentioned in the name of “Indra Sarovar”. Rishi-Munis believe that “Yaksha” who had questioned during his exile from Pandavas and who kept the roots of hidden treasures and trees in the earth, lived in this lake. The path of Tungnath Mahadev from Deoriatal is the easiest way to reach “Panch Kedar” (ancient temple of Lord Shiva).

It is also said about this Taal that seven small rivers below this Deoriatal come above and the water of this Taal is distributed in nearby villages. At this place, Usha (granddaughter of Banasur) and Aniruddh (Sri Krishna’s grandson) used to come for the water sports. Janmashtami fair is celebrated in Deoriatal with great enthusiasm. Janmashtami Mela seems to be at this place because, in ancient times, the Naag Devata appeared only for those who came here from the true heart at this place, so according to this tradition, the Janmashtami day celebrated here.
